Typhoon ( Bagyong ) Kabayan Update August 3, 2011






According to the Philippines weather bureau PAGASA as of 2:00 p.m. today, August 3, 2011 Typhoon "KABAYAN" was located based on satellite and surface data at 980 km Northeast of Basco, Batanes (24.4°N, 131.9°E) with maximum sustained winds of 165 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 200 kph. It is forecast to move west Northwest at 11 kph. Meanwhile, the Low Pressure Area (LPA) and was estimated at 120 km South Southwest of Sinait, Ilocos Sur (16.7°N, 119.7°E).

This weather disturbance is too far to directly affect any part of the country. Expected to enhance the southwest monsoon over Luzon which may trigger flashfloods and landslides. Estimated rainfall amount is from 15 - 30 mm per hour within the 700 km diameter of the typhoon.

The Low Pressure Area was estimated at 105 km Northwest of Sinait, Ilocos Sur. (18.0°N, 119.5°E). The public and the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Councils concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 11 a.m. tomorrow.
