Update on Tropical depression Chedeng






Tropical storm "Chedeng" (international codename Songda) on Monday entered the Philippine area of responsibility and is threatening Eastern Samar.

State weather bureau PAGASA said the storm was located 880 km east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar and was moving west northwest at 13kph as of 4 am.

Packing 95 kph winds and gusts of up to 120 kph, the storm is forecast to reach 620 km east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar by Tuesday morning.

PAGASA said Chedeng will bring rains and wind in Bicol, as well as Metro Manila, in the next few days.


UPDATE:  At 4:00 a.m. today May 24, 2011, Tropical Storm "CHEDENG" was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 540 km East of Borongan, Eastern Samar (11.9°N, 130.8°E) With maximum sustained winds of 105 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph. It is forecast to move West Northwest at 17 kph.
