The much-awaited first meeting between archrivals Ateneo and La Salle in the UAAP Season 74 will be on July 16 at the Araneta Coliseum.

The game between the three-time defending champion Blue Eagles against their archrival Green Archers is slated at 3 p.m. at the Big Dome. Adamson will play Far Eastern University in the 11 a.m. first game on the same day.

UAAP president Ricky Palou said the league will once again sell separate tickets for the Ateneo-La Salle match.

FEU opens the men’s basketball season against La Salle on July 10 at 1 p.m. while Ateneo begins its quest for a fourth consecutive crown against Adamson at 3 p.m. Both games will be played at the Araneta Coliseum.

The finals rematch between Ateneo and FEU will be on August 7 at the Big Dome.

Aside from the Araneta Coliseum, the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City will also be a venue for the UAAP basketball games. The league adjusted the game time from 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

“We did this so that more people can watch (the games) and so that they can go home early,” Palou said.

Another reason for the change is to avoid conflict with the schedule of airtime with the PBA especially during weekends. Both the UAAP and the PBA are aired over Studio 23.

Instead of playing two games on Sundays, the pro league has scheduled a Saturday and Sunday game on selected dates.

During the Ateneo-De La Salle game, the PBA has scheduled a 7 p.m. match between crowd darlings Barangay Ginebra against Alaska.
