Danielle Doty of Texas crowned Miss Teen USA 2011

The Miss Teen USA pageant crowned a new titleholder on Saturday (July 16): Danielle Doty of Harlingen, Texas.

The 18-year-old beat out Audra Mari of North Dakota to win the title and will take over from reigning Miss Teen USA Kamie Crawford of Maryland. The other finalists were Alexis Swanstrom (California, second runner-up), Taylor Clark (Kansas, third runner-up) and Sydnee Stottlemyre (Missouri, fourth runner-up).

The first order of business for Miss Teen USA is to head for New York City for fashion shoots. On July 18, she will attend Mercedes Benz Swim Fashion Week in Miami.

She will then spend the next year traveling throughout the United States with occasional trips overseas to promote a number of causes supported by the pageant, including:

Best Buddies, a program that helps social development and job opportunities for the intellectually disabled; Sparrow Clubs, which help provide funds to families whose children face medical emergencies;

Girl Talk, a mentoring program for junior high and high school students; Project Sunshine, which provides free educational and recreational opportunities for children with medical problems; and D.A.R.E., a law enforcement program for students in grades K-12 designed to reinforce messages against involvement in drugs and gangs.

The pageant is the youth arm of the Miss Universe Organization, which also includes Miss USA.

The organization is co-owned by Donald Trump and NBC Universal.
