Typhoon "Juaning" leaves RP 27 dead, 28 missing

According to ABS-CBN News, Tropical storm “Juaning” has left at least 27 people dead in its wake, according to a report by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
NDRRMC said 34 more were hurt and 28 others are missing. Nearly 108,000 families were affected in Albay alone. In Polangui town, many lost their homes and belongings. Polangui Mayor Cherry Mella-Sampal said even the rescuers were helpless during the height of the storm on Tuesday. "Kahit po ang rescuer ko di makagalaw kasi po yung tubig dito hanggang leeg na," the mayor said.

One of the fatalities is the mother of Albay Governor Joey Salceda, Cielo Sarte Salceda. She slipped on wet floor in her home in Polangui and succumbed to head injuries in the hospital. Despite the loss, the governor went around the province to assist storm victims. "Kailangan po ako ng tao. I have to be strong for Albay," said Salceda.

Catanduanes also suffered power outages. The governor declared a state of calamity in the area to allow the local government to use calamity funds for relief efforts. In Legazpi City, residents have begun cleaning their homes and clearing operations are underway in Barangay Padang, which was hit by lahar flows Tuesday.
