The 2011 Derby Festival Marathon and miniMarathon presented by Walmart on Saturday, April 30, has minor changes to the route due to the storm damage in the south, in addition to flooding of the Ohio, Mississippi and Illinois Rivers.

Marathon Team Relay

We are pleased to again offer the Marathon Team Relay in conjunction with the 2011 Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon.  This is an exciting way to show your organizations true Festival spirit.  Come represent your organization and compete to display the Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon Relay trophy.

REVISED! 2011 RELAY EXCHANGE POINTS

#1:  4th Street between Hill Street and Magnolia Ave

#2:  Southern Parkway and Kenton Street

#3:  Southern Parkway and Lone Oak

#4:  150 meter north of Eastern Parkway and 3rd Street

Relay Pickup Points:

Leg 1 – Runners will start the race in Downtown Louisville at Main Street and Floyd Street. After completion of leg 1, runners will board relay buses staged at 4^th Street and Hill Street.

Leg 2 – Runners will take shuttle buses located at 1^st and Jefferson Street that will take you to 4th and Hill Street. These buses depart for the exchange zone at 6:45 am. After completion of leg 2, runners will board relay buses at Southern Parkway and Kenton Street.The buses will depart for Brook and Market Street once full.

Leg 3 – Runners will take shuttle buses located at 1^st and Jefferson Street that will take you to Southern Parkway and Kenton Street. These buses depart for the exchange zone at 7:15 am. After completion of leg 3, runners will board relay buses at Southern Parkway and Lone Oak.The buses will depart for Brook and Market Street once full.

Leg 4 – Runners will take shuttle buses located at 1^st and Jefferson Street that will take you to Southern Parkway and Lone Oak. These buses depart for the exchange zone at 7:15 am. After completion of leg 4, runners will board relay buses at 3^rd Street and Eastern Parkway and they will depart for Brook and Market Street once full.

Leg 5 – Runners will take shuttle buses located at 1^st and Jefferson Street that will take you to 3^rd Street and Eastern Parkway. These buses depart for the exchange zone at 7:15 am. This leg will be the person crossing the finish line with the D-tag.

Rules and Guidelines

• Each Team will consist of up to 5 runners.  A Team can have as few as three (3) members competing; however, this will require that some Team members run two consecutive legs.  For example, if a Team has only three (3) members, the first runner may run the first two legs of the relay and the second runner may run the next two, while the third runs the final distance to the finish line.  If a Team has four (4) members, one member must run two consecutive legs of the relay.
• All Team members must be registered at the time the Team registers (NOTE: Team Relay participants do not fill our individual entry forms).
• Participants can choose to compete on an All Men's Team, All Women's Team, or a Coed Team.
• Each Team will be given one velcro strap timing chip that will be passed from Team member to Team member at each of the relay exchange points.  The Team timing chip with the best time in each division will be declared the winner.
• The Relay Teams will run the same course as the Marathon field, under the Ekiden format (See Chart Below)

Team Run to the Finish

Join the Team Run to the Finish at Main and Brook Street.  Shuttles will drop the runners of the first, second, third and fourth legs of the relay off at Market and Brook Street.  Runners can meet the the runner of the final leg at Main and Brook Street for the RUN TO THE FINISH!
